Great tutorial, thanks pal. Just one question, is there a way to get the tilt function working in gimp? It's not as essential now with the touch ring but I am curious

"Non-destructive editting" is a weird name, they should be called filtering layers, or "layer effects" (which is actually what the UI says). Or at most, "non-destructive effects". "Editting" is more than just applying effects/filters... it has been possible for ages to "non-destructivelly" edit an image using drawing tools (like the pencil) in a standard layer, so technically non "destructive editting" was already possible before.

This was good and I learned a lot. How about a video for submission to KDP for the entire book cover? (Front, back, spine and bleed area.) How do we properly leave space for ISBN numbers etc? Thanks.

I prefer to do everything shown here in Darktable, except for step 8. Painting, artistic distortions, blending multiple layers, overlaying text and graphics and so on is for GIMP. But processing photos, especially RAW photos, are better handled in DT because it has more sophisticated algorithms that deal with colour shift and film like behaviour much better. Best is, you can integrate Gimp and DT to work hand in hand. DT has mature colour management. I am looking forward to Gimp 3.0 for this aspect

Based on personal experience, I would also rank GIMP as B-tier. I've sometimes participated in mailing-list discussions and can attest for a fact that various minor things faulted by new users are officially regarded as "won't fix" for one entrenched reason or another.

Can you help me ,am stuck , Whenever I'm trying to open a new layer in GIMP it is snapping in to the size of previous or base layer!! All of Your videos have been immensely helpful for me , But I'm struggling to find solution to this.

I grew up using Adobe CS2 up until Windows 10 I've been looking for a clone for Linux for a long while and Krita nailed it. For me its what I was hoping Gimp would be. I've learned to use Gimp over the years and will continue to use Gimp when I need to but I'm feeling Krita a lot more.

Nice tutorial. A bit of a pain compared to photoshop, but it gets the job done for free. And since I do not use photoshop, this is exactly what I needed, just need to do it a few times so I can get down all the steps in my head.

Will it work on a iPad?

Wordpress is annoying since they tried to simplify the UI. The thing that seems to plague UX in the pass 10 years is the idea that simplification means removal or hard-obfuscation of functionality.

Still nothing. Its July 1st 24 in a few days. There are still commits under 24h so it is still actively working on it. I do not remember when I heard of Gimp 3 for the 1st time but it was years ago. I completely forgot it exists. Hopefully we'll see it soon.

Every digital painter and illustrator I talk to, and every forum I look at, when they discuss programs for digital painting besides photoshop, they say "Krita". I've dabbled in it, and it's hard to see how there would be anything better. Definitely S tier. Affinity... yeah, that's S tier.

Affinity? Pixelmator Pro? Krita? I’d be happy if I were able to paste an image into a selection. I could do that in photoshop 2

I might actually star using GIMP again. I want to support FOSS but lack of adjustment layers was a deal-breaker for me. Having to deal with workarounds really breaks your flow. I'm sure I'm not the only one who found this a deal-breaker so I hope it can give GIMP a new wave of interest from people.

Solved issue with solution: Clicking "shadows/highlights" box didn't open "shadows/highlights" box. As well as any "Colours" option from "Colour Balance to "RGB Clip", with a few exceptions in "Auto" to "Info". (Gimp on Linux Mint, imported with Darktable) The solution I found (please let me know better ones) Image/ Flatten image. Side note: Gimp suggests Image/Mode/ RGB, but mine WAS set to RGB.
